Free vaccines available to international students studying in the UK

Good news came for international students who are planning to study in the UK in the coming months.

The NHS have recently announced that all international students will be eligible to receive a free Covid-19 vaccination whilst studing in UK universities.

The news was confirmed in order to make rules and regulations a little clearer. At present, those over the age of 18 in the UK are eligible for a free vaccine regardless of background factors such as their nationality or immigration status.

The news comes as normality is doing it’s best to resume and colleges and universities across the country can get back to old ways and welcome students back into classrooms, lectures halls and on campus while also welcoming international students safely in the process.

Similar news was also reported in Scotland over the weekend as the Scottish government also announced that any international students visiting and studying in Scottish colleges and universities will be included in their Covid-19 vaccination programme.

International students have also received an extension on the application for the new UK post-study work visa. The original date was changed as a result of the pandemic and has now been extended to the later date of September 27th, 2021. This applies to international students who have began their studies in autumn of 2020.

These positive developments come just a few days after Universities in Scotland called for more clarity on the plans for re-opening universities. There has been an outcry for guidance from universities who feel they are in the dark and not being kept up to date with arrangements.

As it stands, universities are set to return in September in small groups and hope to be able to carry out face-to-face classes with safety precautions in place. After students across the UK and Ireland have mostly done their university online since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. While students report that the online learning experience has mostly had a negative impact on learning, there is hope that September will bring some light at the end of the tunnel to allow students back on campus safely with their peers and gain a full university experience. If there is one thing we know it is that anything can change depending on Covid-19 so these plans are not set in stone.
